If You KNOW You Have HIV.... Why Do You Wait So Long?

Posted on May 31, 2017 at 7:20 AM Comments comments (6)

Good morning on this awesome "hump Day". I was awake at 5 am this morning scrolling Facebook and came across a post from my good and awesome friend Frank Hawkins of AIDS Delaware. He wanted to know why people who KNOW they have HIV are waiting so long to get on medications and get in care.

This is why we need to discuss this word STIGMA. People allow stigma to take over their lives. They feel like they are being watched constantly and judged by everyone around them. Most times their own family don't know their status but one change in their daily routine they feel can cause them to be aware something is wrong.

Some people feel that being HIV positive is a hinderance and they don't want to take pills every single day for the rest of their lives. I used to feel like that. How do you go from never needing any meds to now needing meds everyday the rest of your life?

A support system is always needed by someone who goes through a life altering event. Being diagnosed with HIV is very life changing and while I understand why people don't tell family their status I also understand why they should!

Having someone who can relate to your status to talk to is always great but to be able to talk to someone who knows you.... not the HIV you but the REAL you is one of the most rewarding experiences ever.

We have to remember that an HIV diagnosis DOES NOT define who you are! You are the person you have been your whole life!

Here is a great article on that talks about Stigma please take a moment to read it:

$1M Intended To Help HIV Patients Stolen By Non-Profit CEO

Posted on May 25, 2017 at 7:30 AM Comments comments (0)

The former CEO of a housing nonprofit diverted nearly $1 million in federal funds meant for HIV/AIDS patients to cover personal expenses — putting them at risk of eviction, officials said.

Derek Broomes allegedly “abused his authority” to siphon the money, meant to help HIV/AIDS patients get affordable housing, from 2013 to April 2016.

Broomes, who headed Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement, Inc., pushed the non-profit into financial tailspin — jeopardizing at risk-tenants.

Contact information for Broomes’ lawyer was not immediately available.

Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Broomes faces wire fraud and embezzlement charges relating to his handling of Scattered Site Housing Program (SSHP) money.

Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement used the SSHP money to rent 60 apartments in the neighborhood, assigning the units to low-income people with HIV/AIDS.

Residents paid a small portion of their rent not covered by the federal funds, according to court papers unsealed Wednesday.

Broomes allegedly exploited his position to charges hundreds of thousands of dollars in personal expenses to a corporate credit card in his name. He often used the credit card to pay for “personal auto repairs, medical bills, electronics, clothing, and gifts,” feds charge.

Broomes allegedly misappropriated more than $800,000 in federal funds from SSHP to cover the credit card bill, as well as other expenses related to the non-profit.

The charity fell behind on paying rent — and landlords threatened to boot vulnerable tenants.

“When told about these rent arrears — and the threats of eviction — Broomes would typically respond, in sum and substance, ‘What do you want me to do?” according to the criminal complaint.

At the same time, Broomes and his cronies submitted paperwork to the city claiming they were up to date on rent payments.

The non-profit is now working to repay the money that Broome allegedlydiverted from SSHP, the Manhattan U.S. Attorney's office said in court papers.

False Allegations of a Woman Spreading HIV in Jacksonville Florida

Posted on May 24, 2017 at 5:05 PM Comments comments (3)

After speaking to several people including the accused it's been determined that Shantavia Finney is not only a LIAR but also a SCAM ARTIST! If you google her name she has records of scamming and stealing money from innocent people though a bogus boutique she claims to own.

If anyone knows me they know I don't take stories of infecting others lightly at all! So when I scrolled Facebook and saw these allegations I had to get to the bottom of it. My blog post brought the truth out however sadly it caused some pain and I own up to my faults always and sincerely apologize to Erika Holmes for any harm my part in posting the original article has caused. As for Shantavia I think I can speak for quite a few people when I say you need to go rot it hell!

Shantavia Finney made a shocking post on Facebook stating that her God Brother (who has not been named) found out last week that he was HIV positive. IT WAS ALL A LIE!

According to Erika Holmes she doesn’t know Shantavia. In fact, she found out that this is all over some guy that she thinks she talks to that she wants and Erika doesn't even know him!

"Who got AIDS I need you to bite somebody"

You read that correctly! That was the caption of a post made on May 18, 2017 by a guy named JT Carson (Jacob Carson) from Macon, Ga.

Do you know what someone with HIV or AIDS look like? They could look just like you!

I woke up this morning with this in my inbox and the person was very upset. It's like they think people with HIV are these contagious "vampires". This was their reaction: "I was shocked that people still think we are contagious and that its a joke.. Cancer patients are treated with respect and sympathy. I don't need sympathy, just empathy and understanding. Ask instead of assuming. That's why so many people keep their status hidden."

Who cares that it's a joke and it wasn't serious. The fact remains is that it adds to the stigma of HIV and AIDS. To have a post like this with almost 205 comments and over 3,400 shares shows me and everyone reading this that people don't take this disease serious enough.

Since when did having HIV/AIDS become something to laugh about? Do you know that 1 in 4 people are infected with the HIV virus? That means you have at least 1 person in your family who has HIV! You might argue and say that's not true but listen.... if they see that you laugh and joke about HIV and AIDS like this do you think that they will be willing to share with you they have it. We as advocates encourage newly infected individuals to reach out to family as a support system but in ONE post you just showed so many people that they might just want to deal with the disease alone.

Not enough people are being put on front street for their negative actions. Make it so bad Jt's profile says that he's a member of the United States Air Force. If this is true then he needs to realize that when he's fighting for this country not only is he fighting for those that are HIV negative but also for those who are HIV positive.

Reading through the comments there were lots of laughing faces and when someone with some sense made it know that you can't get HIV or AIDS from a bite they got bashed.

You want to go "viral" at the expense of others pain! You are a poor excuse for a man and I know i'm not the only one who will agree! Not everyone who is HIV positive is trying to infect others nor did they get HIV from sharing needles or having risky sex. some of us like myself were married and guess what it still happened!

Before you decide to make fun of a subject like HIV remember it's someone like me who will be ready to put that ass on blast!

STATE HIV LAWS... Does your state prosecute?

Posted on May 24, 2017 at 12:50 AM Comments comments (0)

HIV and the Law

Laws and policies are structural interventions that can be facilitators or barriers to effective HIV prevention and care activities. Examples of these laws and policies include:

  • 49 states plus D.C. now have HIV testing laws that are consistent with CDC’s 2006 recommendations, nearly twice as many as when the recommendations were released.
  • 32 state Medicaid programs reimburse for routine HIV screening of adults aged 15-65 years, regardless of risk. 1
  • 42 states plus D.C. require reporting of all CD4 and viral load laboratory data to HIV surveillance programs.

What’s Law Got To Do With It?

Law impacts nearly every aspect of our lives. Laws and explicit policies can be viewed as structural interventions for achieving HIV prevention goals.

What CDC is Doing

Given the importance of law in HIV prevention work, the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention (DHAP) has implemented public health law research methods to systematically collect and assess statutory and regulatory frameworks across a range of legal domains to help determine whether these legal frameworks act as barriers or facilitators to effective HIV prevention environments.DHAP has focused on the public health implications of state statutes and regulations across key HIV prevention topic areas, such as HIV testing, Medicaid reimbursement for routine HIV screening, laboratory reporting of CD4 and viral load data for HIV surveillance purposes, and criminalization of potential HIV exposure.

The Charlie Sheen Effect

Posted on May 23, 2017 at 11:20 AM Comments comments (0)

Since that news breaking day that actor, Charlie Sheen revealed to the world that he was HIV positive something has happened with HIV testing…. It’s being dubbed the ‘Charlie Sheen Effect’.

After watching the interview and hearing one of the world’s well known actors utter the words, “I am HIV Positive.” HIV testing rates have increased. Sales in home tests kits have increased and doctors and health departments nationwide have seen a very large increase in those requesting to be tested.

Researchers have estimated that over 8,000 more tests were sold weeks after the announcement than they expected. Celebrities have been known to spark a health care alert in their fans over the years, but is that enough?

Does revealing your medical diagnosis help or hinder the cause? There’s more to telling the world you’re HIV positive than it seems. Sadly Charlie Sheen found this out and quickly got himself the true education he needed. While relying on the herbal and holistic means of a “cure” and treatment he found out that it’s all good until it’s not doing what you expected. Going from undetectable to detectable can happen as fast as the blink of an eye.

The positive outcome of others getting tested has shined light on how celebrities truly do have an impact on how the world reacts to their influences.

Do you still believe Undetectable equals Untransmittable?

Posted on May 22, 2017 at 7:45 PM Comments comments (0)

Current headlines reads that a man in Melbourne, Australia has tested positive for the HIV virus while on PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis).

Within the last year I have been seeing many say that undetectable equals untransmittable. Many took that and ran with it saying that if they are undetectable that there’s no way they can infect someone else with HIV. History and education have proven that HIV while undetectable still has a 1% chance of being transmitted.

Very rarely will this occur if the negative partner is taking PrEP (Truvada) and the positive partner is undetectable and taking their antiretroviral medicines as prescribed. So how does one become HIV positive when everything is done right? This is where your own individual genetic make up comes into play. Just like certain medicines give some allergies and they can’t take them it’s kind of like that with HIV medicines. Most times you don’t know a medicine won’t work or you’re allergic until you’ve been taking it for a few days to weeks or even months out.

The doctors in Melbourne say that they look at the genetic makeup of the virus to determine if it is a drug-resistant strain or a non-resistant strain. Many people have a naturally built up resistance to HIV medications like Truvada but does anyone else see the bigger picture? The picture outside of the fact that resistance is happening?

Are these PrEP users depending on Truvada to be the saviour of all things that will keep them HIV negative? Are condoms being used? I understand a condom breaking and you being at risk and exposed but how many people are actually really still using condoms while taking PrEP?

The talk of undetectable equals untransmittable is scary and honestly very misleading. It adds to the stigma. Someone with HIV says to someone who is HIV negative, “Oh, we can be together and have sex because you can take PrEP and you won’t get HIV.” Guess what the reply most times says, “ARE YOU CRAZY?! I’m not going to rely on some pill to keep me from getting HIV.” Then they will probably say something like they wouldn’t even risk it with using a condom.

One of the most important things to do when involved with an HIV positive partner and you’re taking PrEP is to know their Viral Load and CD4 count.

Once we educate each other and understand that yes there are new medications and treatments that are making life easier for us….. If we aren’t educating those who are negative then we’re still fighting a losing battle.

Pregnant Florida Woman Blasts Man, Says He Gave Her HIV

Posted on May 22, 2017 at 4:50 PM Comments comments (0)

Huge shoutout to Kissy Denise for linking with me on one of the world's least talked about subjects.... HIV! In today's society people are more worried about how good someone looks and smells and not what their HIV and STD test results look like.

In society today we must be awake and aware of everything around us.

I want to share with you all the most recent article by Kissy that briefly talks about a woman named Nina Ross from Jacksonville, Florida who about a month ago made a video on Facebook Live stating that she has slept with two men and is not only pregnant by one of them but is HIV Positive and it's from one of the two as well.

Where do we even begin to decipher this drama? Well Devon Davenport says that he's negative and showed her a test to prove it. the problem with the test is that it doesn't show his name anywhere on the test. If you are attempting to clear your name you'd make sure it was showing big and clear!

There are also tests results from Zel Zilla that clearly show the results were negative, his name, the test administers name, and the date. People quickly jumped on the test takers case when rumor said that he faked the results for Zel and that he was in fact really HIV Positive. Mr. Heard defended himself by saying that he didn't know Zel and that he did his job and nothing fraudulent was done. After searching the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office it was determined that Mr. Heard was never arrested as someone claimed.

The fact remains that a woman is now HIV positive and pregnant with risks of transmitting this virus to her child during birth. With present medical advances the risk is low but it's not completely impossible.

Click this link to watch her video blasting both men and placing the blame on just one of them and also my response to the situation with the current information and evidence that has been made public.
